projectART Wimberley Opens ARTSPACE with Inaugural Show, House Party

Bringing art-based student programming and contemporary art to the Texas Hill Country

Wimberley, Texas: projectART Wimberley today announced the September 30, 2023 opening of ARTSPACE with its inaugural group show, House Party. This milestone is a major move for projectART on its mission to support art education and provide creative opportunities for the youth of Wimberley.

“Wimberley students don’t have the same access to museums, arts facilities and funding as their urban counterparts.” says Bregan Ford, Executive Director at projectART Wimberley. “ARTSPACE will not only house at least four contemporary exhibitions per year as a student-run gallery space but also host artist talks and workshops, performances and events, and art classes.”

House Party, is a contemporary still life exhibition, showcasing 16 artists who carry on the tradition of depicting everyday scenes through drawing and painting or who reimagine everyday objects through materials and processes. The work in this show covers a wide range of interpretations from realistic to abstract to symbolic and transformative.

“For our opening exhibition, we wanted to put on a big show with a lot of artists and a welcoming feeling. We landed on the still life theme to deliver a ‘welcome to our new home’ type of atmosphere. These 16 artists all create imagery and objects that play with ideas of the home, the domestic, or the everyday, in a range of different media and styles, and all have ties to Central Texas.” adds Jules Buck Jones, Head Curator at projectART Wimberley.

House Party Artists:

Lana Waldrep Appl, Ellen Berman, Joey Fauerso, Lauren Moya Ford, Raul Rene Gonzalez, Tamara Johnson, Drew Liverman, Michelle Marchesseault, Sarah Murphy, Bradley Petersen, Rebeca Proctor, Andy Rihn, Anthony Sonnenberg, Sarah Stellman, Dan Sutherland, Michael Villarreal

This news comes in the wake of many recent initiatives and accomplishments of the company, including:

  • The 3rd Annual projectMENTOR Show & Reception (which raised nearly $5,000)
  • A partnership with Wimberley ISD’s for-credit Practicum program
  • A donation of $5,075.08 in art supplies made to Wimberley schools

“ARTSPACE gives us the space to reach more students more often. It allows us to expand already successful programs, such as projectMENTOR, and build on the momentum we’ve been gaining since launching projectART in 2019.” Jennifer Ober, founding member at projectART Wimberley.

About projectART Wimberley:

ProjectART Wimberley is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving the small, rural community of Wimberley, Texas. We were founded in the fall of 2019 by a group of impassioned parents and art educators sharing the belief that improved access to art education and other creative opportunities could positively impact the lives of Wimberley’s youth. With that, our mission, to support art education and provide creative opportunities for the youth of Wimberley, was born.
